Select Board responds to Coffin Pond dam removal

misc · Meeting of April 13, 2026

NH SUGAR HILL — Sugar Hill Select Board plans Coffin Pond dam replacement after state's surprise removal. The state dismantled the dam with less than 24 hours notice following inspections in January and March that revealed eroding slopes and corroded pipes. Chairman Chris Ellms contacted the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, which indicated replacement funding could be years away.

The board plans to meet the week of April 20 with state agencies, local partners, and the town engineer to develop a plan for a simple spillway, though complex ownership issues involving the Conservation Commission, Fish and Game Department, and state agencies must first be resolved.
