Select Board outlines plan to rebuild Coffin Pond dam through state property transfer

NH SUGAR HILL — Select Board outlines multi-year Coffin Pond dam replacement strategy. On April 20, the Select Board met with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Dam Bureau, Fish and Game, the Conservation Commission, and Horizons Engineering to discuss rebuilding the dam following its removal. The group identified two priorities: transferring state-owned property to the town and securing permits from DES, the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers, and the Dam Bureau for a new spillway-type dam to be installed by the town highway department. State officials indicated they will not fund repairs; they currently manage 275 dams statewide but have sixty-four classified as high-hazard facilities. The board urged residents to contact State Senator Rochefort about the property transfer.
