Select Board outlines Coffin Pond dam replacement plan

NH SUGAR HILL — Sugar Hill Select Board advances multi-agency plan for Coffin Pond restoration. On April 20, the board met with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Dam Bureau, Fish and Game Department, the Conservation Commission, and Horizons Engineering to outline a two-stage project: transfer Coffin Pond from state to town ownership through multiple state committees, then permit and construct a new spillway-type dam for in-house building by the highway department, subject to NHDES, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Dam Bureau approval.
Board Chair Chris Ellms cautioned that the timeline will be lengthy. The town will also pursue a potential bird sanctuary partnership with Audubon and a bike path around the restored pond.
